Emerica is one of the most popular names in USA and across the world as far as manufacturing snowboarding and skateboarding shoes are concerned.
Based in Lake Forest, in the US state of California, Emerica is one of the leading skateboarding brand in the country and is owned by Sole Technology. Emerica was founded in California in the year 1995 and at that time it was known as Etnies Footwear. Etnies Footwear was actually a venture of French Shoe Company Rautureau and was launched in the year 1986 but was later acquired by an American shoe manufacturing company. Pierre-Andre Senizergues was the chief designer and distributor of Etnies footwear as Etnies America in USA since 1990, but after its acquisition by the American footwear company, he lost his licensing rights and then he started a new brand named Emerica, simply by dropping the word Etnies.
Starting from Fall 1995 to Spring 1996, all Etnies shoes were shipped as Emerica shoes, but in that year Pierre-Andre bought the rights to the Etnies name and started producing shoes under both brands simultaneously. While Emerica started focusing on core skateboarding, etnies started manufacturing surfing shoes for both men and women, BMX, moto-x footwear and wide variety of skate shoes.
